When my son was about that age, I bought a DOS shareware program that made balloons from ramdom keystrokes. I still get blamed for that when we can't pry him off the computer with a crowbar.
I can't say my son has learned any programming. That's not the direction of his interaction with the computer.
I did catch him undressing the female Sims a few years ago.

We had a similar program called "Key Whack" that he loved! Made all sorts of shapes and sounds appear when he hit the keyboard.
When he got older he still enjoyed it--or rather he enjoyed trying to get the password typed in fast enough to shut the program down.
